Full Dentures
Full dentures require a flesh-colored, horseshoe-shaped acrylic bottom base be fit over your gums. The top denture covers your palate (the roof of your mouth) and the two interlock like real teeth. Full dentures come in conventional style or immediate.
Conventional full dentures are placed into your mouth when all the other teeth have fallen out, or been removed, and the bone has healed. Immediate full dentures are implanted directly after the teeth have been removed and the gums and jaw bones heal around it. Often immediate full dentures must be adjusted after a time to fit the healed gums and bone.
Removable Partial Dentures
Partial dentures replace only those teeth that are missing in your mouth. They fit with existing teeth on a metal framework, and crowns can be inserted to anchor them in. Partial dentures can also act as a removable alternative to a bridge.
Overdentures
Overdentures fit over a number of your natural teeth for better security and positioning. Patients who do not opt for Overdentures should also consider the alternative: Mini Dental Implants for Dentures.
Mini Dental Implants for Dentures
Mini Dental Implants can be secured to your dentures for increased stability. Because they are anchored to the denture itself, and not a removable piece, they maintain bite power, making eating much more simplified. They can also eliminate movement of the denture, plastic over the tasting receptors in your mouth, and decrease, or even eliminate, bone loss in your mouth.
Mini Implants
Mini Dental Implants for dentures are just an off-shoot of the mini dental implant family. These diminutive dental apparatuses are small anchors which are directly implanted into a patient’s jaw and fitted with a synthetic tooth. Sets of 4-6 of these implants can be used in tandem to reverse full teeth loss and house a full complement of teeth replacements.
Mini implants can also be used with single crowns in tighter, harder to reach locations inside the mouth. Lower front teeth and upper incisors benefit most from mini implants; as traditional implants cannot be placed there as effectively.
Mini vs. Traditional Implants
Mini implants are smaller in size, and therefore, fit almost any space in the jaw (unlike traditional implants). Mini implants also require fewer appointments, as the placement procedure is less invasive for our patients and require less down time for healing. Mini implants are also more cost-effective, costing 25%-33% less than traditional implants. They are ideal for patients with bone loss and decreased density as well, and may help you avoid any sort of custom grafts.
